Urbex (urban exploration) of Denbigh Asylum
The North Wales Lunatic Asylum was the first psychiatric institution built in Wales; construction began in 1844 and completed in 1848 in the town of Denbigh. The U-shaped Tudorbethain style hospital was built due to the spreading word of mistreatment of Welsh people in English asylums; The North Wales Hospital would be a haven for welsh speaking residents to seek treatment without prejudice or a language barrier.
Renovations and extensions were made at the hospital from 1867 until 1956, when the hospital reached its maximum capacity at 1,500 patients living inside her walls and 1,000 staff at hand. Physical treatments such as Cardiazol, malarial treatment, insulin shock treatment, and sulphur based drugs were used and developed in the 1920s and 1930s, and 1941-1942 saw the advent of electro convulsive therapy (ECT) and prefrontal leucotomy (lobotomy) treatments.

onto the pics

Its one thing to read and see in pictures just how badly the building has decayed, but to see it first hand is really something else

A pic of the floor where I fell through, its an odd feeling when you realise you've gone through a floor and are falling in slow motion, whilst turning your camera away from the floor to try and save it. Afterwards, it was quite funny, although it put me on edges for the rest of the visit.

Luckily I didnt fall through this one:

Time for some light painting:

more dodgy floors

Floor where Chris nearly fell though

The lift looked like something out of Half-Life!

And to sum up this long report, some misc pics:

Nick that is awsome! Great pictures - very impressive! A haunted house. You allmost can feel the ghosts moving arround. It would be a dream, to have this in 3D for a game.
Thank you also for the texts - it makes your report clearer and the pictures even more interessting. Thank you very much!

Thanks Bat!!!
There was one moment in a service tunnel where I did the light painting, something made one of the batteries in one of my light units keep popping out, even though they were in tight and secure, quite strange.
A epic explore nontheless, and I plan to go and finish off the site soon

haha could well have been, no reason for the batteries to pop out time after time. I love denbigh asylum, even though its falling down I find it one of the most beautiful buildings around.

Looks great.
Lets all buy the place, and make it a halopaintball/laser house.
And a place to live in.

lol its a bit of a fixer upper though!
it needs alot of work done to it!
BTW nick the batteries popping out of your machine could have been ghosts!
the reason i say this is that batteries not working or coming out have happened many times before in haunted places!
people have proved that places like that asylum you visited WERE haunted and that could well be evidence that the place IS haunted!
HOO U GONNA CALL?????????
ÐTK-Ghostbuster!
lol
or we could just send in Alex! Im sure he could make it his own Bat manor (wayne manor batman!)
lol

Do you ever watch "Most Haunted", James?
I love it. Complete trash. But I love the way they get so scared and forget to point the camera in the right direction. There is just something about watching a group of people wandering around a dark building trying to find ghosts. Makes me jump and gets the adrenaline running. It's a bit like a good ghost story around a campfire and everyone gets a little spooked.
